Netflix users are confused after new movie 'Spiderhead' hits theaters.
The thriller, based on George Sanders' dystopian short story "Escape from Spider's Head," hits the streaming service on Friday (June 18).
It follows two inmates reconciling their pasts in a state-of-the-art prison run by a visionary who tests mind-altering drugs on his subjects.
The film topped the global Netflix charts just one day after its release.
However, audiences were baffled as to why they didn't hear about the film until the day it was released.
After all, Netflix has a lot of selling points to work with — namely Chris Hemsworth, one of Marvel's most popular stars.
Additionally, the film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, whose last film, Top Gun: Maverick, was one of the highest-grossing films of the year, let alone the most critically acclaimed.
The film, which has divided critics, was also written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writing duo of the first two Deadpool films.
"Just watched Spider Head on Netflix and they didn't advertise the movie in a way when it had the best cast, and the director in general was excellent, that's what Netflix is all about," said one. One viewer who saw the film wrote.
Others chimed in: "Ask @netflix why don't you promote #Spiderhead but promote your other stuff that shouldn't be there? For God's sake, it's directed by #josephkosinski."
A week before Spider-Man's release, director and producer Peter Atencio wrote: "In 7 days, a streaming service will release a $100 million movie by the Starring one of the biggest movie stars and directed by a man, it's his biggest hit date of the year in theaters. But, I don't recall seeing a single commercial."
